Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC., through BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing for a Full Replacement of the Sports Lighting System at the Allen Event Center in the Amount of $275,500.

ACTION PROPOSED:

Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC., through BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing for a Full Replacement of the Sports Lighting System at the Allen Event Center in the Amount of $275,500.




BACKGROUND

The Allen Event Center is equipped with an arena bowl sports lighting system manufactured by Musco Sports Lighting, LLC.  The hardware components were acquired from International Coliseums Company in 2010 when the City of Allen took over management of the Arena.  This original system is considered inefficient and obsolete by today's standards and is expensive to maintain.  The current system is comprised of metal halide fixtures and has exceeded the standard 10-year life expectancy.  Proposed replacement is an LED lighting system offering comparable coverage with full color spectrum technology and an expected 50%-85% decrease in energy usage.

 

Allen Event Center management has identified windows of time in August and September of 2021 where this replacement project can take place with minimal impact to events already under contract and prior to the start of the 2021-2022 Allen Americans Hockey Season.

 

The Musco Sports Lighting, LLC agreement for Sports Lighting System replacement uses Buy Board Competitive Contract #592-19.


BUDGETARY IMPACT

A combination of General Capital Project funds and Facility Maintenance funds in the amount of $275,500 will be used for this project.


STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC., through BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing for a Full Replacement of the Sports Lighting System at the Allen Event Center in the Amount of $275,500.
