| | | | | | | | | PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: | On May 12, 2020 the City Council considered and denied approval of the contract with Whirlix Design, Inc. for the construction of shade structures in the amount of $121,241.
On July 14, 2020 the City Council requested to bring the item back for consideration at a future meeting. |

| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
In recent years, residents have called on the City of Allen to install shade structures over playgrounds at a majority of our parks. An initiative to respond to this started in 2019 with the addition of shade over the playground at Reed West.
The Community Development Cooperation approved funding for four shade projects in FY2020. Staff examined all of the city's playgrounds to determine which playgrounds were best suited for shade at this time based on the age of play equipment at each location.
Staff has chosen to work with a couple of different companies to take on this task. Whirlix Design, Inc. has been selected for the installation of shade at Bethany Lakes Playground and Hillside Park.

This purchase is proposed to be made through the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative contract #592-19 and funded by the Community Development Cooperation.

Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with Whirlix Design, Inc., through the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative for the construction of shade structures at Bethany Lakes Park and Hillside Park in the amount of $121,241.
