It is anticipated Bending Branch Way will be used by students crossing between the campus of the Allen ISD STEAM Center and the Collin College Technical Campus. The Director of Engineering has determined a section on Bending Branch Way should be designated as a school zone to provide a safe route between the facilities during the school day.

The Allen Independent School District and Collin College have been consulted in this action through the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee and have endorsed the project.

The school flasher, signposts and signs will be provided and installed by Collin College Technical Campus, as part of their construction of Bending Branch. Therefore, no budget impact exists for the installation of this school zone, but will increase our maintenance costs in the years ahead for the City to maintain in perpetuity.

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances, Chapter 9 - Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Section 9-137(b), to install the School Zone for Allen ISD STEAM Center and Collin College Technical Center.
