The Old Stone Dam, which has been designated by the Texas Historical Commission as a State Archaeological Landmark, is located in Cottonwood Creek, North of Exchange Parkway, and just East of the US 75 corridor.   With the natural bend directly upstream of the dam, erosion has occurred and compromised the streambank integrity, threatening to bypass the dam structure. Although hydraulic effects can be unpredictable, this erosion is not surprising for unprotected bends in creeks that do not have complete stabilization through the bend. 

In an effort to reduce the effects of the erosive forces that have caused this concern, a concrete bag wall was designed as a solution. Furthermore, it is recommended to repair existing gabions (i.e. stones in wire baskets) downstream that have been damaged from debris coming down the creek.  Lastly, we also propose removing silt upstream of the dam to re-establish the existing capacity of the creek.
