The purchase of bunker gear in the amount of $85,000 will be with Casco Industries, Inc. Bunker gear includes the daily protective gear that fire department personnel utilize on fire and rescue calls, consisting of helmets, boots, hoods, gloves, bunker coats and bunker pants.

The purchase of body armor in the amount of $60,000 will be with Delta Industrial Service and Supply. Body Armor, including trauma plates and helmets, is utilized in the event that fire department personnel participate in a coordinated response activity with the Police Department, such as a mass shooting event. Body armor provides protection to responders attempting to retrieve the wounded while police provide cover.

The bunker gear purchases will be funded from Fire Department Operational Funds. The tactical body armor purchases will be purchased using Texas Ambulance Services Supplemental Payment Program (TASSPP) funds.  

Staff recommends that the City Council award bid and authorize the City Manager to execute the purchase of expanded personal protective equipment for Allen Fire Department Personnel from Casco Industries, Inc. and Delta Industrial Service & Supply in the amount of $145,000.
