Adopt an Ordinance Ordering a Special Election on a Proposed Charter Amendment Submitted by Citizen Petition to be Held in Conjunction with the City General Election on May 4, 2019.

ACTION PROPOSED:
Adopt an Ordinance Ordering a Special Election on a Proposed Charter Amendment to the Home Rule Charter of the City of Allen on May 4, 2019.



BACKGROUND

The City Council is being asked to adopt an Ordinance ordering a special election to be held on May 4, 2019, as a result of a citizen petition requesting an election to be called for the next uniform election date for the voters of the City to vote "for" or "against" a proposed amendment to the Charter to provide for term limits for the office of Mayor and Councilmember.

 

The petition presented to the City Secretary on December 7, 2018, has been verified, meets the requirements pursuant to Texas Local Government Code Section 9.004 and is sufficient.


BUDGETARY IMPACT

The Collin County Elections Administrator has estimated the City of Allen's portion of the joint election to be $11,186.15.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Allen City Council consider and approve an Ordinance ordering a special election to be held on May 4, 2019.

I make a motion to adopt Ordinance No. ______ ordering a special election on a proposed Charter Amendment to the Home Rule Charter of the City of Allen on May 4, 2019.
