On May 12, 2009, City Council adopted Resolution No. 2822-5-09(R) authorizing an Interlocal Agreement between Allen and Plano for a Joint Radio Communications System for Municipal Services. Through this agreement, Allen and Plano own the system and reserve the right to seek additional subscribers. The revenue from any additional subscribers will be held by Allen and Plano and used to support the jointly owned radio system infrastructure.
The original agreement was due to expire in 2019. This new agreement renews the agreement annually without expiration unless one of the parties chooses to dissolve the agreement. Additionally, the cost sharing structure and terms of use were updated.
The goal of the changes and renewal of the agreement is to continue the longstanding and successful joint ownership of the system. The investments from Allen and Plano, along with the other subscribing members over the years, have provided a robust solution that would not have been possible alone. By continuing our commitment to shared services, the citizens benefit through a lower total cost of ownership and higher level of resilience and service for our public safety and general government radio users.
