| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
The Allen Police Department replaced its patrol shotguns in April, 2015. The older shotguns were in service for approximately twenty years before being replaced. These shotguns are considered surplus property and are not in-service for the police department. The shotguns have no use or function that benefits the Allen police officers. Additionally, the department's new shotguns are a different brand and function slightly differently than the older models.
The City of Trenton is a small rural jurisdiction with a limited police department. The Trenton Police Department does not currently have shotguns, and the Allen Police Department would like to assist by providing a donation of used and out-of-service shotguns to their agency. The surplus shotguns are not eligible for resale to the general public. Seven (7) 12-gauge, pump shotguns and two (2) 12-gauge, pump shotguns set up for less lethal bean bag rounds will be donated. A formal Interlocal Cooperation Agreement has been created to facilitate the transfer of the firearms.
