In this context, truck traffic refers to large wheel-base vehicles (tractor-trailers and commercial trucks) that meet certain requirements in the Texas Transportation Code.
The existing Ordinance designating truck routes in the City of Allen is so old that it references FM2170, which no longer exists. That roadway is now McDermott Drive and East Main Street. The Ordinance needs to be updated to be made current with existing roadway names and designations. By law, all state-roadways are automatically considered truck-routes. The City is not required to identify state-roadways in the Ordinance, but for the sake of clarity, the designated truck routes will be:
US 75 (within the City limits)
US 121 (within the City limits)
FM 2551/Angel Parkway (Main Street to Southern City Limit)
FM 2786/Stacy Road (Greenville Avenue to FM 1378)
Truck route enforcement is based on truck traffic using routes that are not identified as truck routes, without a destination or origin in Allen (i.e. cut-through traffic). A route that passes through the community without a destination within our community would be an offense and violation. For instance, Andrews Distributing or any other trucking destination in the community does not require a designated truck route from the nearest state highway, since those trucks originate and terminate at their facility within the community.
