This purchase is for traffic signal equipment called Ethernet switches.  These switches, selected by the Information Technology Department for compatibility with our city-wide network, allow the traffic signal controllers and other components to communicate by radio to the traffic management software.  These new switches are "hardened," meaning they are designed to function outdoors and be more durable to the harsh environment of working in the field.  We are purchasing enough switches this fiscal year to replace approximately half of the signal locations.  The remainder will be replaced next fiscal year.

The switches will be purchased using Series 2017 General Obligation Bonds, already issued for Signalized Intersection Improvements, and utilize the cooperative purchasing rate that has been established through Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) #DIR-TSO-2542.

Staff recommends the the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the purchase of traffic signal ethernet switches from Pivot Solutions, North America, Inc. d/b/a Sigma Technology Solutions, Inc. through the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) Cooperative Purchasing Agreement in the amount of $89,856.
