| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
Allen Police Officers assigned to the Patrol Services Division will be issued rifles as part of their normal equipment. Individuals rifles assigned to officers will be carried during normal patrol duties and will be cared for by the assigned officers. This purchase will insure that the rifles and sights are always in good condition.
Allen Police Officers are also required to qualify with a variety of weapons including handguns, rifles, shotguns and other weapons to remain proficient in their use and in accordance with departmental policies and state requirements. Qualifications are required 3-4 times a year and all officers must shoot a minimum of 50 handgun rounds. Officer also qualify on additional weapons (rifle, shotgun, less-lethal) depending on their need and current assignment.
Additionally, all the weapons carried by police officers will need various part replaced during preventative maintenance periods and in the event of a failure or damage.
GT Distributors' quote reflects Buyboard pricing - contract # 524-17 and Texas State Contract 680-A1. See attached quote and Buyboard contract information and terms.

Funding for the rifles and associated equipment is included in the Police Department's asset forfeiture budget for FY2018.
Funding for ammunition and firearms maintenance is included in the Police Department's operating budget for FY2018.

Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the purchase of fifty patrol rifles and associated equipment, ammunition, firearm training kits, and replacement parts for police issued duty weapons, and miscellaneous items related to firearms and firearms training with GT Distributors, Inc. in the amount of $142,627.
