| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
The need for this intersection improvement has come about due to the AISD construction of the new Elementary No. 18 (Preston Elementary). The school is scheduled to be open for classes in Fall 2018. Traffic associated with the new school is expected to increase along Chelsea Boulevard, which will cause congestion at the Chelsea Boulevard and Allen Commerce Parkway intersection in its current 3-way stop condition.
The Chelsea Boulevard Intersection Project will improve the existing intersection by removing the northbound and southbound stop condition. This project will extend the existing northbound lanes just north of Allen Commerce Parkway, removing the sharp curve in the intersection. This intersection improvement will aide in traffic flow as the new Preston Elementary opens by not requiring Northbound and Southbound traffic to stop at the Allen Commerce intersection. The project also includes the extension of a 12" water line.
