| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND
Trail construction is an ongoing effort in the City of Allen. This particular segment of the Cottonwood Creek Trail is part of the Collin County Regional Trail System, which will complete the missing segment from Hydrous Wakeboard Park across a pedestrian bridge to the Allen Senior Recreation Center. Additionally, this trail will provide continuous connection to the existing segment that travels west and makes connection to The Edge Skate Park, Library and further into the CBD. The 12' wide trail will also provide connection under St. Mary's drive to the Allen Heritage Village along Cottonwood Creek. This project will provide future opportunities to connect and extend the trail south to Main Street completing the last segment of the Cottonwood Creek Hike & Bike Trail through Allen.
This project also includes various site amenities to be located in proximity to the Allen Senior Recreation Center. Amenities will include benches, trash receptacles, a nature trail, a vegetable garden and sidewalk connections that will provide several looped walking paths around the Senior Recreation Center.
Funding for construction of this project will come from the Allen Community Development Corporation and a matching Grant of $357,500 from the Collin County Parks and Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program.
