TASER International, Inc. is an American developer, manufacturer, and distributor of conducted electrical weapons, body worn cameras, and digital evidence management solutions.  TASER weapons have become one of law enforcement's most trusted tools because they have been developed with abundant customer input, features and functions that help officers stay safe in the field. The Taser brand has specific unique components not available in comparable products. 

The purpose of the taser is to offer public safety personnel the ability to have less lethal alternative to protect themselves and the community based upon the situation or assignment. The taser is a less lethal weapon used for defense of officers and community from close quarters out to 25 feet in dealing with a combative person.  Officers are required to complete annual training with their taser.  These tasers would replace current tasers that are at the end of their life cycle.

Funds have been budgeted in the 2016 Asset Forfeiture Fund.

Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the purchase of taser devices, holsters, and cartridges for a total amount of $51,135.35.
