SUBJECT:

Adopt a Resolution Amending Chapter Four, Section 4.01 E "Promotional Probation" and Chapter Eight, Section 8.01 B "Rating Frequency," of the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:

On February 4, 2004, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 2266-2-04, which amended the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual to update all existing policies and administrative directives.

ACTION PROPOSED:

Adopt a Resolution Amending Chapter Four, Section 4.01 E "Promotional Probation" and Chapter Eight, Section 8.01 B "Rating Frequency," of the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.




BACKGROUND

The current policy on Performance Evaluation Frequency does not address when an employee promotes into another position or has a reclassification to their current position. The proposed amendment would allow a change in an employee's evaluation date to coincide with the month and day of the employee's promotion/reclassification.

 

Chapter Four, Section 4.01 E "Promotional Probation" is being amended to include reclassifications and updates the probationary period from ninety (90) days to a one (1) year confirmation period. This will result in standardization of any probationary periods to be one year in length.


STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution amending Chapter Four, Section 4.01 E "Promotional Probation" and Chapter Eight, Section 8.01 B "Rating Frequency," of the City's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
